Roger Hicks, MD, testifies to support universal health care for all Californians

January 31, 2012

On January 17, 2012, Roger Hicks, MD, testified before the California Senate Appropriations Committee in support of SB810.  Watch his speech.  It begins at 18:52 on this video: http://www.calchannel.com/channel/viewvideo/3245

SB810 is a bill that proposes to create universal healthcare in California.   The author, Senator Mark Leno (D-San Francisco), explains the bill’s purpose in the following statement:

Senate Bill 810 establishes a modern universal health care system that provides every California resident with comprehensive benefits for life, containing the growth in health care spending and ensuring patient-centered, high quality health care for all Californians.  The plan is fully funded with the money we already spend on health care. It eliminates wasteful insurance overhead, invests in electronic infrastructure that improves quality while reducing cost, emphasizes prevention and primary health care, and utilizes California’s purchasing power to realize savings on prescriptions and medical equipment (“About SB810.” Senator Mark Leno. Web. 31 Jan. 2012. http://sd03.senate.ca.gov/sb810/about).

Dr. Hicks was also interviewed about SB810 for an article in our local newspaper, The Union.  The article was featured on the front page on January 31, 2012.  To view it online, click here.
