Roger Hicks, MD
Medical Director
Dr. Hicks received his BA from Brown University and his MD from Cornell University Medical College. He completed his Family Practice residency at U.C. Davis, and passed Family Practice Boards. He is also Board Certified in Emergency Medicine, and is a member of the Urgent Care Association of America. He is the founding president and a current board member of the South Yuba River Citizens League. He was drawn to Nevada County by the Yuba River, and opened Yubadocs in August, 2000.
Burnell Vassar, MD
Dr. Vassar received her MD and did her residency program in Family Practice at Michigan State University.
Dr. Vassar is a family medicine doc who loves rural medicine and rural living. She always wants to speak more Spanish and welcomes Spanish speaking clients. Her hobbies are hiking, cooking and gardening.
Nurse Practitioner
Gillian Viers, MSN, FNP-C
Nationally Certified Family Nurse Practitioner through AANP, State Certified Nurse Practitioner through California Board of Registered Nurses.
Having grown up in the Sierras, Gillian always knew that she wanted to return to its rivers and mountains and help local communities with their health needs. After finishing her undergraduate education at UC Davis, Gillian went on to receive a BSN from the University of Virginia and a MSN from UC San Francisco. She came to Yuba Docs in 2008 with RN experience in both emergency and critical care, as well as with experience in reproductive health as a Family Nurse Practitioner.
Physician Assistants
Trevor Nichols, PA-C
Trevor graduated from the USC School of Medicine Physician Assistant program with honors in 2000. He has experience in Emergency Medicine and Family Practice and enjoys being able to combine his skills at Yubadocs. He is a nationally certified Physician Assistant. At work he has special interests in orthopedics, patient education and disease prevention. His hobbies outside of work include mountain biking, exercise, cooking, fishing and playing the guitar.
Alyssa Wargala PA-C
Alyssa grew up in Placer County and graduated from Humboldt State University in 1995 with a BS in biology and zoology and a minor in English. In 1999 she graduated from Physician Assistant program at the Medical College of Pennsylvania at Hahnneman University in Philadelphia. Since graduation, she has worked in Urgent Care and Family Practice in Placer and Nevada Counties. A nationally certified Physician Assistant with Advanced Cardiac Life Support credentials, Alyssa joined Yubadocs in October of 2008. Her outside interests include gardening, reading and riding horses, but most of all spending time with her family.
Marsha Cummings, PA-C
Certified Physician Assistant by National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants
Marsha graduated from the UC Davis School of Medicine PA/FNP program. She has worked in minor injury, urgent care orthopedics and family practice. She enjoys bicycling and hiking.

Our normal business hours are 8:00 am to 6:00 pm Monday through Friday, and 9:00 am to 4:00 pm Saturday, Sunday, and holidays. We are closed on Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year’s Day.
